St. Peter
Lutheran Church of Orland Township
125th Anniversary
1884-2008
Founded on steadfast faith in God and a longing for a place of worship by
Swedish and Norwegian pioneers of the area.
St. Peter Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized May 14,
1884 when 12 families of Lutheran faith signed the original constitution.
Pastor Erick Ruste served as the first missionary minister.
A wooden frame church was built in 1897 and construction began on the
present building in 1946 with dedication in 1948. Fieldstone from area farmers’ fields provided a portion of
the construction materials.
Rev. Terry Knudson currently serves the congregation.
