About Us
Saint Peter Lutheran Church
Doss Community
Doss, Texas is a small farming and ranching community in Gillespie County with the population accelerating during the whitetail deer and turkey hunting season. Doss is located 19 miles Northwest of Fredericksburg, and 14 miles Northeast of Harper.
Fishing and swimming are enjoyed in the spring-fed streams in the community.
Our Saint Peter Lutheran Church members (some third and fourth generations of the founders) are dedicated to the growth of our congregation, taking pride in our church buildings, grounds and cemetery.
HistorySt. Peter Lutheran Church is located 23 miles northwest of Fredericksburg, Texas, in the picturesque Doss Valley, a rural community settled in the mid-1800s. Our congregation was founded in 1896 when the pioneers (mostly German Lutherans) saw the need for people of faith to have a place to worship. With more and more families homesteading in this beautiful Hill Country, a magnificent, native stone sanctuary was completed in 1913. Because of the growing families and the vital continuation of Christian education, a large, split-level Parish Hall was built in 1947. The building contains a modern kitchen, office, Adult Sunday School Class and Children’s Sunday School Class areas and rest rooms.

St. Peter Lutheran Church Congregation
Our congregation welcomes all the peoples in the community and surrounding areas by scheduling special, interfaith services, always well-attended and resulting in a feeling of unity and fellowship. The members of St. Peter Lutheran Church have had a rich legacy of faith and tradition for over a century and with the privilege of living in God’s Grace, look forward with joy and anticipation to the future. Our sister congregation is Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Pastor David Priem Installed July 10, 2022
The Rev. David Priem was installed as pastor at Saint Peter Lutheran church on Sunday, July 10, by the Rev. Alan Williams who has been interim pastor at St. Peter for the past thirteen months.
A congregational dinner followed in the Fellowship Hall.
Pastor David is not retiring from Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, but will continue serving Holy Ghost in a 2/3 capacity and 1/3 capacity at St. Peter Lutheran in Doss.
“This is a shared ministry between sister congregations,” said Pastor David, ” and a great model for the season we are in with a shortage of pastors and a number of congregations that can be served.”
